Andy, 265's may look good, but they will seriously impact on fuel economy, I would suggest something like a 235 or at most a 245 width. Upping to 265's could add about 10% to your fuel consumption figures, and with the cost of fuel that is nothing to be sniffed at.

Well im planning on some new seats for the defender, i like the look of bmw, impreza, smart or discovery/rangerover seats. Which should help dad realise the defender is best for us. Im also gonna keep some old carpet out of the house im doing up to make some extra sound proofing just for the trip. Got a much lighter winch bumper made. Im also planning on getting some new tyres nearer the time. But they havent down many miles its just nice to have a new set. Il keep you updated.

well the snow has melted a bit so I managed to get to the front of the rangie, steering box is now changed, so much easier when the wing is off, you can get into the pipe unions with no problems! new wing being picked up on Thursday, and the I am off to Jedbrugh in the Scottish borders to pick up the new panels, the old blue Sh****r is going green! next to do is the oil cooler pipes and then the wing can go back on.

Good plan Charlie, I now have a 2.0TD4 Freelander as well so i do not need to worry about keeping the Disco on the road, so I can now start to put some plans in place too.. - Oil Cooler pipes
- Power Steering Pipes
- Oil Sump Seal
- Rewiring of head and extra lights with new switches to resolve some issue..and prepare for upgrade to HID lamps.
- Replace brake hoses for braided stainless steel, drain and replace all brake fluid
- Replace knackered rear wheel bearing
- Inspect remaining wheel bearing, replace as required.
- Inspect UJ's and possibly replace now to prevent later failure.
- Grease all joints with grease gun
- Start putting metal together to make roof rack
- Remove tow hitch assembly
- Drain and replace all fluids and lubricants..and I mean ALL!
That's just the little jobs I need to do, but by taking her off the road I reduce the pressure to get it running for work...means I can take my time and make improvements as I go..

Jim my mum and dad have had 2 freelanders first one was the v6 then second was a facelift TD4 what a good piece of kit that was. Just make sure you service it well and check the vicous coupling every service. They had the gearbox and clutch go early on it tho.
Are you planning on wiring your headlights through relays? Im planning on doing this seems a good idea cause it has less of a vault drop. You could take your propshafts off to grease them. That way you can make sure the grease gets into all the cups and not just the easiest ones. I can never see the point in stripping the ujs down for a service you just aswell replace them after all the hassle. Hope you enjoy the little project then.

Thanks Steve, Headlights should always be via relays because otherwise you risk burning out switches due to the load placed on it at start up.

Steve, depends on the model, some did not have relays per se because the relay was built into the electronic controls, the very basic electronic brain some earlier Land Rovers had, like my D1 and some Defenders, it was only when the TD5 arrived that true ECU's that we think of started to appear..and they had to have relays for higher powered items.

well stage 2 of project range rover is on the move, picked up a set of panels from Jedbrugh in the borders green in colour and not too scabby, rear drivers quater needs a touch of new steel and the front passenger wing has a pin hole, 3 doors that look ok, a cracking roof with a glass sunroof and a good roof lining. roll on the warmer days to get it started.

Drivers inner wing now fitted and painted with red oxide, tomorrow I will start by fitting the new drivers wing passenger wing decker panel and if I have time the rear doors, passenger door needs all the innards rebuilt and the power window transferred over, rear wings will be done in the spring after I have sorted the rear steel panels.

Drivers wing is on the front lights are reconnected, went to drill out some holes and the drill ran out of power, got the battery in and started the old beast for the first time since December, next on the list will be the decker panel the new bonnet and the grill, then I can get the bumper back on,
now snowing heavily and my workshop is one of those alfresco ones so I have come in to warm up!!
